There are numerous components and technologies that go into the making of a tattoo, many of which are unseen and often overlooked, but are just as equally important in creating visual results. This project was a venture into the hidden realm of tattooing - an exploration of the ephemeral numbers swirling around a mark of permanence. In conjunction with neuroscientist Maxwell Bertolero, the time and voltage of a tattoo machine's power supply were recorded and analyzed while 12 unique tattoos were completed. The data was plotted by 1:1 mapping, and the final images are based on a spectral color scale. The project was completed at the New Museum over a period of 6 weeks.
