AN ACT OF IMPERMANENCE
The Rubin Museum of Art
February 7, 2020 - October 31, 2020
"The Rubin Museum of Art opens 2020 with an exploration of impermanence. A key tenet in Buddhism, impermanence is the idea that everything changes. There is inherent beauty in transience, as every moment is fresh and new. When we try to control and cling to moments, we suffer not from impermanence but from our reaction to it.
As an illustration of our changeable existence, we have invited Amanda Wachob, a New York City-based artist who is known for her innovative work with the tattoo medium, to create tattooed citrus for our windows over the course of the year to celebrate our exhibits and events. We will allow the fruit to shift, shrink, change, and even decompose as reminders that nothing lasts, not even tattoos."
