BIO
Amanda Wachob works across multiple disciplines including painting, photography, sculpture, and tattoo. Her work examines the body as both metaphor and medium, and navigates the liminal spaces of corporeal experience and transcendent states. Her institutional collaborations include projects with The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the New Museum, the Museum of Arts and Design, the Clyfford Still Museum, the Rubin Museum of Art, The Museum of Contemporary Art Denver, and The Whitney Museum of American Art.
As a pioneering figure in the watercolor tattoo movement, she actively dismantles the hierarchical boundaries between tattoo and fine art. Through this cross-pollination of mediums, her practice expands conventional definitions of contemporary art while establishing tattooing as a legitimate site for fine art discourse, a positioning grounded in her belief that tattooing is one of humanity’s oldest and most enduring forms of creative expression.
